The purpose of AZ Permitted Corridors is to disclose permitted, but not yet built, utility corridors. It is a public information tool which provides access and visibility of sited infrastructure corridors of future power lines, associated electrical facilities, and major natural gas lines. The graphical information will assist municipalities, counties, developers, planners, real estate professionals and potential real estate buyers in future planning and decision making.

House Bill 2080

In 2006, House Bill 2080 was enacted by the Arizona Legislature and signed by the Governor to put structure to the joint collaboration between local government and utilities.

The bill requires that utilities that choose to engage in advance planning of utility corridors and facilities and that provide that information to local jurisdictions shall respond to and work with those utilities. Local jurisdictions are specifically charged with incorporating any known utility plans into their comprehensive and general plans and make that information available to the public.
